What is Screen Time
Screen Time is more than just a tracker; it's like a mirror reflecting our digital habits. Providing detailed reports on app usage, notifications, and device pickups empowers us to make informed decisions about our screen interactions.
Key Features of Screen Time
- App Usage Reports: See how much time you spend on each app daily and weekly.
- Notifications: Discover which apps are sending you the most alerts.
- Device Pickups: Track how often you pick up your iPhone throughout the day.
Turn on Screen Time
1. Go to Settings 
> Screen Time.
2. Tap App & Website Activity, then tap Turn On App & Website Activity.
Use Screen Time on all Your Devices
You can share your Screen Time settings and reports across all your devices where you’re signed in to the same Apple Account.

Go to Settings

Scroll down, then turn on Share Across Devices.
View your Screen Time Summary
Any time after you turn on Screen Time, you can view a report of your device use, including how much time you spend using certain kinds of apps, how often you pick up your iPhone and other devices, which apps send you the most notifications, and more.

Tap See All App & Website Activity, then tap Devices to select which device you want to see usage for.
3. Tap Week to see a summary of your weekly use, or tap Day to see a summary of your daily use.

Downtime
Schedule time away from the screen.
- Open Screen Time: Go to Settings > Screen Time
- Downtime: Tap 'Downtime' and toggle it on.
- Tap Turn On Downtime Until Tomorrow.
- Turn on Scheduled to schedule downtime in advance.
When you schedule downtime, a 5-minute reminder is sent before downtime begins. You can ignore the reminder or turn on downtime until the scheduled downtime begins.
3. Select Every Day or Customize Days, then set the start and end times.
You can turn off the Downtime schedule at any time by turning off Scheduled.
During downtime, only apps you allow and phone calls will be available.
App Limits
- Open Screen Time: Go to Settings > Screen Time.
- App Limits: Tap 'App Limits' and then 'Add Limit.'
- Choose Categories: Select the app categories or specific apps you want to limit. To set limits for individual apps, tap the category name to see all the apps in that category, then select the apps you want to limit. If you select multiple categories or apps, the time limit you set applies to all of them.
- Set Time: Define the daily time allowance.

To set an amount of time for each day, tap Customize Days, then set limits for specific days.

When you finish setting limits, tap Add.
Communication Limits
Control who you can communicate with during Screen Time and downtime.
- Open Screen Time: Go to Settings > Screen Time.
- Communication Limits: Tap 'Communication Limits'.
- Set Limits: Define who can contact you during allowed screen time and downtime.
Choose Apps and Contacts to Allow at All Times
Specify apps that can be used and contacts you can communicate with at all times (for example, in the event of an emergency), even during downtime.

Access Screen Time: Go to Settings > Screen Time.

Contacts Only: Allow communication only with your contacts.

Contacts & Groups with at Least One Contact: Permit one-on-one conversations with people in your contacts and group conversations that include at least one person from your contacts.

You can either keep the same setting or change it to Specific Contacts and choose from:

If someone blocked by your Communication Limit settings tries to contact you, their call or message won’t go through. Conversely, if you try to contact someone who’s blocked, their name or number will appear in red in your recent calls or messages, and the communication won’t proceed. You can resume contact when the limits are adjusted or when downtime ends.
Blocking Content and Preventing iTunes & App Store Purchases
You can restrict access to inappropriate content and set purchase limitations through Content & Privacy Restrictions.

This ensures that your Screen Time settings are protected and can’t be altered without the passcode.
Checking for Sensitive Images on iPhone
Your iPhone, or your family member’s iPhone, can automatically detect nudity in images before they are viewed in various applications such as Messages, AirDrop, Contact Posters, FaceTime messages, the Photos app, and third-party apps that use Apple’s Communication Safety framework.
If nudity is detected, the image will be blurred, and resources will be provided to help the child handle the situation. This feature does not provide Apple with access to the photos.
Steps to Enable Communication Safety

Go to Settings: Open the Settings app on your iPhone.

Access Screen Time: Navigate to Screen Time.

Turn On Communication Safety: Tap Communication Safety, then switch on Communication Safety.
When this feature is enabled, the iPhone will detect nude images before they are viewed and will display a warning. The parent’s Screen Time passcode must be entered to view any image that is flagged for nudity.
The warning screen will include three buttons: Not Now, Ways to Get Help, and I’m Sure.
Note: Enabling Communication Safety also turns on the Sensitive Content Warning in Settings > Privacy & Security. You can additionally turn on this warning separately in Settings > Privacy & Security. For more details, see the section about receiving warnings about sensitive content.
